PGR presents arguments supporting charges against 'crucial core'
On Tuesday (25), the First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) began the first session to analyze whether the complaint against former president Jair Bolsonaro and seven others accused of participating in the attempted coup d'état in 2022 should be accepted.
The Attorney General's Office (PGR) - the apex body of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office that acts in criminal cases before the Supreme Court - is the author of the complaint and has presented its considerations on the case.
This Tuesday's session at the STF has already included:
- Reading the document that lists the conduct of Bolsonaro and the other defendants. Alexandre de Moraes, the rapporteur of the case, said that successive and coordinated attacks had been made on the democratic rule of law;
- The argument of the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet;
- The defenses of the seven accused and Jair Bolsonaro. The former president's lawyer said that "absolutely nothing" was found against him.
Paulo Gonet's arguments
The presentation of the Attorney General's arguments, called an "oral argument", was made by the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, and lasted 30 minutes. During his speech, he:
- cited Bolsonaro's conduct in spreading attacks on the polls;
- recalled the ministerial meeting in July 2022, where there was talk of "the use of force";
